
No fewer than 50 people were prosecuted on Monday for violating the protocol on the use of face masks in public places in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.
The perpetrators were subjected to community service after being arrested in the mobile court at the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan.
It was observed that the offenders were punished for serving two hours of community service for their offenses.
The state government threatened to arrest and prosecute the prisoners without using face masks.
The state government said in a circular issued by the head of the public service, Selimot Ottun, that the directive will come into effect from 22 February 2021.
While the task force applied Monday, the task force made the arrest at the State Secretariat in Oke-Mosan.
Fifty people were charged in the mobile court.
