Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has said the club will not win the Premier League title next season if Edinson Cavani is their first choice.
Cavani impressed during his time at Old Trafford and scored a shoulder when they beat Roma 6-2 in the Europa League in the middle of the week.
The Uruguay striker has arrived on a twelve-month contract, but there is the option to extend a further year, and many believe the striker justifies an extension.
However, Keane maintains that Cavani is past his best and United should consider next options in the transfer window.
‘I hope somehow they do not like him, because then they can think and think we do not need to get another (attacker).
‘He’s 34, if you hang your hat on Cavani next year to win United back in the league, forget it.
“He will be a backup attacker and he will not want to be a backup attacker. That is why he is reluctant to sign a new contract and there are obviously family reasons behind it,” Keane told SkySports. .
